Delivered To Your Door

Over the last few months, I’ve seen a few of my friends talk about their “stitch fix.” There have been posts saying I kept all five items or 4 out of 5 items. I had no idea what they were referring to until I decided to try it myself. With Stitch Fix, this website asks you a series of questions regarding your size and style, what you need in your wardrobe, how much you spend on items, etc. Then they let you schedule a date for your fix (there was a wait when I signed up) and in a matter of weeks five items show up in a box at your front door. You have three days to decide what you want to keep and what you want to return. They put a bag with return postage in the box so all you have to do is stick them in a mailbox.

In my fix I got a pair of skinny, stretchy jeans which I did love because I’m tired of wearing maternity pants, a color block shirt (which was huge), a 3/4 sleeve, studded dress shirt, a summer cardigan and a magnetic bracelet. I kept the jeans and dress shirt but returned the color block shirt because I was swimming in it – returned the cardigan because chasing a two-year-old and hauling around my four-month-old means I am constantly sweating and I returned the bracelet because nothing magnetic is going to stay on my wrists at this point in my life…my oldest would have it off in two seconds or my youngest would have a new teething toy.

But, I am a sucker for this sort of thing because I love getting mail. It is that simple. There is  joy in having a little box show up at your door packed full of surprises. However, I have to say that this is really the only reason I would ever do this. Shopping for me is a stress reliever. I love going in local boutiques and chatting, not to mention that I love having other people’s opinion when I try on clothes. Fortunately, most of the boutique owners I know are honest and don’t want you representing their store in clothes that don’t flatter. So, while the thrill of online ordering is a lot of fun – I think I’m going to get “my fix” from shopping local!
